Rare ensemble of garnets at the exhibition in St. Petersburg
The exhibition Seventeen centuries of Czech Garnet was organized by the National Museum Prague in the Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg from 12th February to 1st March 2009.
Co-organizer of the exhibition was the Czech Republic's Consulate General in St. Petersburg. Czech garnet - pyrope was used for centuries as a mineralogical symbol of Bohemia - this exhibition was held during the Czech Presidency of the European Union. On display was an exceptional ensemble of amazing masterpieces - so called Lobkowicz chalice and bursa, accompanied by elaborately decorated binding of Missal, all from the Loreto Treasure. Great artworks from Loreto Sanctuary represented the Czech art of the 2nd half of the 17th century.
